HomeAccessibilityWebsite and app
Accessible website, shop and app Review, rebuild or build anew. To WCAG 2.1 AA.
Accessibility comes about in the code and in many small places. We review your website, shop or app, fix the causes in the code and document the result.
Free, no strings attached. If you like, with a written assessment of your project.
How we proceed
-
Step 1: Taking stock
Automatic tests and a manual review with keyboard and screen reader, along the most important paths: home page, search, product, basket, checkout, forms, login.
What you do: give us access and name your most important paths.
-
Step 2: Priorities
You receive a list of defects, ordered by severity and effort, and our assessment of whether a rebuild or a new build is worthwhile.
What you do: decide.
-
Step 3: Implementation
We fix the defects in the existing system or build anew. Design and content stay as far as possible.
What you do: look at interim results.
-
Step 4: Evidence and upkeep
Test report, technical details for the accessibility statement and, on request, regular reviews when new content is added.
What you do: give feedback.
The most common defects
These points are found on almost every website that has never been tested.
- Contrast that is too low for text and buttons.
- Images and icons without alternative text.
- Form fields without labels, error messages in red only.
- Menus, cookie notices and calendars that cannot be operated by keyboard.
- No visible focus, so you lose your place when tabbing.
- PDFs and documents without structure for screen readers.
Accessible apps
The same principles apply to apps, implemented with the accessibility features of iOS and Android.
- Every button has a label for VoiceOver and TalkBack.
- Text grows with the font size that is set, without anything being cut off.
- Operation without gestures that only work with two fingers or precise swiping.
- Sufficiently large tap targets and contrast, in dark mode too.
Principles What we look out for in implementation.
-
Causes instead of overlays
We fix defects in the code instead of laying tools on top.
-
Tested with real assistive technology
Every important page is played through with keyboard and screen reader, not just measured automatically.
-
Your design stays
Accessibility rarely requires a new design. Mostly it is contrast, spacing and labels.
-
Good for everyone
Clear forms and good contrast help all visitors, including on a phone in the sun.
The law provides for no official certificate for websites. We document the review and its result to WCAG 2.1 AA.
Frequently asked questions about the accessible website
How do I check whether my website is accessible?
For a first impression: operate your website using only the Tab key and check contrast with a free checking tool. Automatic tests find only part of the defects, though. A reliable review additionally needs manual tests with a screen reader.
Rebuild or build new?
That depends on the system. If the code is clean and the system maintained, a rebuild is usually enough. With old site builders and heavily customised templates, a new build is often cheaper than many individual corrections. After taking stock, we tell you what makes sense.
Do we get a certificate?
There is no official certificate for websites. You receive a test report to WCAG 2.1 AA and the technical details for your accessibility statement.
Do you also make apps accessible?
Yes. We review and rework apps for iOS and Android or develop them anew, with VoiceOver, TalkBack and dynamic font size.
What does an accessible website cost?
That depends on scope, system and condition. After taking stock, you receive a written proposal with a clearly described scope.
Which website or app is it about?
